Liberty Leading the People, 1830
Eugene Delacroix
Brimming with patriotic symbolism, Liberty Leading the People is an oil on canvas painting by Eugene Delacroix commemorating the French Revolution of 1830 and the end of Charles X reign as the King of France. The central female figure is a reference to the Goddess of Liberty. In one hand, she holds the tricolor flag of the French Revolution, which ultimately became the national flag of France. In her other hand, she is gripping a bayoneted musket as she stands atop bodies of the fallen.
Taking wearable art to an entirely new level, this example of French Romanticism has been re-imagined by The Mountain using the medium of ink on fabric.
